Hidden Dynamics of Family Culture in the Workplace

Event Description
There are conceptions that an engaged and healthy company culture should feel tightly-knit and agile, like a family or sports team. However, this mindset and work environment can sometimes be detrimental to the growth of an organization and its members. It is important to be aware of how a specific culture can have short-term positive effects, but unintended long-term negative effects on a team and everyone within it.
In this session, we will go over a case study of a company with a strong family culture and its highlights and challenges. We will learn and discuss where and how we can invest our resources to leverage family culture strengths while making necessary changes for the sustainable growth of the company and its people.
Takeaways

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Overcome misconceptions and misperceptions about corporate company culture, its purpose and employee’s interactions
  • Understand how to identify “painkillers” within a nice and family company culture and replace them with solutions that will guarantee continuous improvement
  • Understand how to Identify focus areas with culture to develop and improve, to drive growth and innovation
  • Build awareness of their own constructive and destructive contribution to a family culture
  • Understand what actions are necessary to overcome the shortcomings of family culture that will allow for further growth and innovation within the company

 

Speaker Name & Bios

Samin Saadat

People’s brains, behavior and interactions with their environment never fail to impress. Samin, After spending long hours in psychology research labs at UBC and completing her Master’s at Sauder School of Business, entered the workforce and observed a gap between what research suggests and what companies actually do to increase productivity and profitability. With a Master’s of Management and B.A. in Psychology, enhanced by her research, problem-solving skills, and her practical work experience (in organizational development, employee engagement and management consulting), Samin supports both people and organizations in reaching their full potential and discovering the right mindset and the right environment.

 

Imaima Robert

Imaima is an Organizational Psychology Consultant and Researcher. She helps organizations reach their full potential, working closely with employees to maximize engagement and their psychological safety in the workplace. She is highly experienced with creating healthy workplace cultures, recruitment, team development, and restructuring. She has used her experience to help organizations strengthen their culture, dynamics, and development. Imaima works closely with employees and leadership teams, providing coaching and training to create an environment where they can thrive. She has also been heavily involved in organizational volunteer consulting helping organizations strategize and maximize their people resources. Imaima holds a Bachelor’s degree in Natural and Environmental Science from the American University of Nigeria and a Master’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Adler University, where her research focused on psychological safety and how it impacts employee wellbeing, performance and psychological capital.

 

Leanne is an Employee Engagement Consultant, Coach, and Researcher, who helps organizations reach their full potential. Leanne is highly experienced with change management, team development, and employee engagement; she has used her experience to help organizations strengthen their team dynamics and development. Leanne works closely with employees and leadership teams by providing coaching and training services that assist in the development of workspaces that promote personal and professional growth. She is also heavily involved in conducting performance evaluations and designing workshop content in accordance with needs assessments. Leanne holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Biology from Queen’s University, a Master’s in Sport and Performance Psychology from Florida State University, and a Master’s in Organizational Behavior from Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. Leanne also holds a Professional Coaching Certificate from Adler Graduate Professional School and received a certification in Applied Mindfulness Meditation from the University of Toronto.

 

Ritika Rana

Ritika Rana is a Management Analyst who helps startups and SMEs optimize their operational efficiency and accountancy. With over 5 years of experience, she has been developing an expertise in business problem solving, team optimization and client relations. Leadership, mentorship, and entrepreneurship are three core values that have always intrigued her since childhood as she comes from a family where her parents and siblings have their own independent businesses. Therefore, to live her values, she has been highly engaged as a mentor in the International Leadership & Mentorship Program, as Vice President in the Capilano Business & Professional Society and as a Board Member of the Capilano Alumni Association. Ritika holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a post-baccalaureate diploma in North American Business Management (International Strategy and Entrepreneurship). She is currently working towards Pricing Analyst certification.

 

Level of Interaction

What differentiates our training/workshop sessions from others is that we leverage technology and reflective exercises to create an interactive learning experience where participants can experience the changes and lessons first-hand. Both virtually and in person, we use different technologies to gamify the learning experience for the audience.
