Attended the BCODN event last night.
Great insight into what HR is from Cori's perspective.
Loved the interactive elements of the audience sharing their stories and plenty of time to network afterwards.

BCODN was a proud supporter the Art of Leadership Event held in Vancouver last September. Featuring five world-renowned bestselling-authors and thought leaders, the conference brought together over a thousand professionals and academics with the common purpose of gaining insights into cutting-edge practices in leadership.

You know that electric feeling in the air when people are exchanging ideas, sharing lessons learned, and having a good conversation? That was the case at September's Season Kick-off Networking Event at the Cactus Club’s atrium on Broadway. Several students were in attendance from Adler University and it was truly inspiring to hear how many of our seasoned professionals were offering their experience to the students. Information flowed both ways, to be sure!

Half of our new board members were on site and happy to hear about ideas and thoughts for the season ahead. One of the themes was looking at having some meetings outside the downtown core. Yes -- we're looking into that!

North American organizations are aware of an urgent need for skilled change practitioners comfortable in not only leading planned change such as new systems integration, but who are also able to facilitate complex changing situations. Now more than ever OD and HR professionals, Project Managers and People Leaders, need to be ready to meet the challenge of constant change within organizations.

STS (or ... Share The Subject)

Have you ever been to an event and you end up briefly discussing topics that you would really like to dig deeper into? We have too. That is why STSs were introduced to BCODN this year.

One of the visions for BCODN this year is to create the space for members and guests to discuss topics of shared interest. For example: What OD-related technology do you find useful? What do you know about gamification? What are some of the latest trends in organizational development? What is your experience with a specific tool?

You may recall that Adler University put out a call to the BCODN Community for senior organizational development or human resource executives to be on a panel to share feedback with students. The call was heard and some wonderful people stepped up. When asked how it went, the University’s Program Director for the M.A. in Organizational Psychology said:

Imagine a world where new practitioners are mentored by established practitioners and use their combined services to strengthen not-for-profit organizations in the community. Isn’t that a great thought? The good news is, through BCODN you are already part of that community! What’s more, if you want to get involved, you can.

Stemming from BCODN, the Building Community Organizations (BCO) is a forum for emerging and seasoned OD practitioners to work and learn together as a team while providing volunteer services to selected not-for-profit organizations in the Metro Vancouver area and other regions of British Columbia.
